Romania, first in Europe for incidence and mortality from cervical cancer
Romania continues to record worrying figures regarding public health, occupying the top position in Europe for the incidence and mortality caused by cervical cancer. This situation has persisted for several years, despite information efforts and the existence of modern prevention methods.
Medical specialists warn that there is no significant improvement at the national level regarding the early identification of the disease. Timely detection of precancerous lesions is essential for treatment success, yet many patients reach the doctor only in advanced stages of the condition.
The main problem highlighted by experts is the lack of an effective screening strategy across the entire country. Although diagnostic tests are available, public access to regular testing programs remains limited, especially in rural areas or in low-income communities.
To change this reality, doctors emphasize the importance of annual gynecological check-ups and periodic screening tests, such as the Pap smear. Health education and awareness of the risks are fundamental steps to reduce the mortality rate and improve the quality of life for patients in Romania.
