Deadline for Romanian town halls: Mandatory enrollment on the Ghișeul.ro platform
Romanian authorities have set an important deadline for the digitalization of public services. By August 25, all town halls in the country have a legal obligation to enroll on the Ghișeul.ro platform. This measure aims to facilitate the payment of local taxes and fees directly online, offering citizens a modern and fast alternative to queues at counters.
Currently, the national situation shows that over a quarter of town halls in Romania have not yet fulfilled this obligation. Interim Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu drew attention to this aspect, emphasizing the importance of integrating all administrative-territorial units into the national digital system. The lack of enrollment hinders the access of residents in those areas to digital public services.
Digitalizing local administration is an essential process for reducing bureaucracy. Through the Ghișeul.ro platform, Romanians can check and pay their financial obligations to the local budget without the need for physical travel. Authorities hope that, through this regulation, they will increase the tax collection rate and improve the interaction between the citizen and state institutions.
In the coming period, central authorities will closely monitor the enrollment process to ensure that all town halls comply with the law. Citizens are encouraged to check if their town hall is already active on the platform and to use the available digital tools to save time and avoid crowds.
