Red Alert in Bucharest and Government Collapses Today
Residents of Bucharest are being warned of violent storms, while the country goes through a period of political instability following the fall of the government. On the economic front, housing costs continue to rise rapidly, and high inflation is putting pressure on income discussions.
Authorities have issued a RO-ALERT Red Code message for Bucharest, valid today between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM. Violent storms and lightning are forecast, and citizens are advised to avoid travel and seek shelter.
This alert comes amid a high-level crisis after the Government fell following a motion of no confidence (a vote in Parliament through which the executive's activity is halted). Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan described the situation as irresponsible, warning that Romania is now in a state of transition without a clear plan for the coming period.
In the real estate sector, housing prices in major cities are rising at a record pace, driven by higher construction material costs. At the same time, inflation in Romania has exceeded the 10% threshold, well above the European average of approximately 2%. For this reason, business representatives are opposing a potential increase in the minimum wage in the near future.
Regarding public safety, a Moroccan citizen has been expelled from Romania with a 10-year entry ban. The measure was applied at the request of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) for reasons related to national security.
