Romania, first in Europe for incidence and mortality from cervical cancer
Romania is facing a worrying situation regarding public health, currently ranking first in Europe for the incidence and mortality caused by cervical cancer. Recent data show that our country records the highest rates of illness and death due to this condition on the continent.
Medical experts warn that there are no significant improvements at the national level regarding prevention and treatment. The early identification of precancerous lesions remains a major challenge, and the healthcare system is not yet managing to effectively handle the early detection of the disease.
Specialists emphasize that this form of cancer can be prevented through regular medical check-ups and well-organized screening programs. However, population participation in screening tests, such as the Pap smear, remains low, which leads to the disease being diagnosed at advanced stages, when treatment is much more difficult.
To change this reality, authorities and health professionals recommend better informing women about the importance of annual check-ups. Health education and easy access to specialized medical services are essential to reduce the number of new cases and to save lives in the coming years.
