The government has approved the railway infrastructure modernization strategy for the 2026–2030 period
The Romanian government has recently approved an important strategy for the development of railway infrastructure, which will be implemented over the next five years, between 2026 and 2030. This official document establishes national priorities for improving rail transport, a sector that requires constant investment to meet European standards.
The main objective of this plan is the rehabilitation and modernization of the existing railway network. Authorities aim to increase train speeds and improve passenger safety on the main routes crossing the country. These changes are essential to make rail transport more attractive and efficient for travelers.
In addition to repair work, the strategy focuses on the digitalization of traffic management systems and the acquisition of new technologies. Modernizing the infrastructure will also allow for better connectivity between Romania and railway networks in the rest of Europe, thereby facilitating both passenger and freight transport.
The implementation of this project will be supported through national and European funds, as it is one of the strategic directions of the Ministry of Transport. Authorities estimate that by completing these works by 2030, the quality of railway services in Romania will increase significantly, offering a faster and more environmentally friendly alternative to road transport.
