Over 5,000 ecological islands have been installed in Romania to improve waste collection
The Romanian Ministry of Environment recently announced the achievement of a new important target from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Authorities have completed the installation of over 5,000 digitized ecological islands, which are now located in various localities across the country.
These ecological islands represent modern containers for the separate collection of waste. They are equipped with advanced technology, being accessible to citizens via a card or a mobile application. The main goal of this project is to encourage recycling and ensure more efficient management of household waste in urban areas.
Implementing this system is an essential step toward meeting the environmental objectives assumed by Romania at the European level. By using these collection points, authorities hope to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and improve the level of cleanliness in cities.
The project is part of a broader strategy to modernize environmental infrastructure in Romania. European funds allocated through the PNRR allowed for the purchase and installation of this equipment, providing local communities with the necessary tools for a more sustainable lifestyle.
In the coming period, authorities will monitor how these ecological islands are used by the population. The success of this program largely depends on the involvement of citizens in correctly separating recyclable waste from household waste.
