IICCMER launches an educational program about the history of communism for young people
The Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes and the Memory of the Romanian Exile (IICCMER) has announced the launch of a new educational program dedicated to pupils and students in Romania. The initiative aims to provide the younger generation with direct access to historical documents and authentic testimonies about the communist period.
The main goal of this project is to help young people better understand the harsh realities of the totalitarian regime that led Romania for several decades. By studying archives and the stories of survivors, the organizers wish to keep the memory of the victims of political repression alive.
The program places a special emphasis on the concepts of resistance and the fight for freedom. Participants will have the opportunity to analyze how Romanian society was affected by censorship, surveillance, and economic shortages, while also learning about those who had the courage to oppose the system.
This initiative is considered essential for the civic education of young people, providing them with the necessary tools to critically interpret the country's recent history. IICCMER representatives emphasize that understanding the past is fundamental for consolidating democratic values in the present.
The project will include workshops, presentations, and access to specialized digital platforms. Through these interactive methods, the institution hopes to attract as many students as possible who are interested in discovering the truth about an important and often painful chapter in Romania's history.
