Auchan tests a new smart shopping system in Romania
Retailer Auchan has announced the launch of an innovative pilot project in its stores in Romania, introducing "Smart Cart" technology. This initiative is part of a broader company strategy to digitize the shopping experience and offer customers modern solutions to save time at checkout.
The "Smart Cart" system works with the help of a cart equipped with a scanner and a touch screen. Customers can scan products as they place them in the cart, thus having the ability to see the total value of their purchases in real time. This technology eliminates the need to take products out onto the conveyor belt at the end of the store visit.
By implementing this project, Auchan aims to reduce waiting times at checkout counters, a frequent problem during busy periods. Additionally, customers can pay directly through the cart or at express payment points, thus simplifying the entire purchasing process.
This test is initially available in certain selected units, as the company wants to observe how Romanian consumers interact with the new technologies. If the results are positive, the retailer could expand this system to other stores in the country, continuing the digital transformation of the retail sector in Romania.
