Romania loses hundreds of millions of euros from the PNRR due to the deadlock over the Salary Law
Romania risks losing approximately 770 million euros from the funds allocated through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). This situation arose after the governing political parties failed to reach a common agreement on the new Unified Salary Law.
Financial experts warn that this legislative failure has negative consequences for the national economy. International financial rating agencies, such as Bloomberg, have signaled that instability in managing reforms increases the risk of Romania's country rating being downgraded to "junk" status. Such a decision would make state borrowing much more expensive on international markets.
The Unified Salary Law is one of the essential reforms undertaken by Romania before the European Commission in order to access the tranches of money from the PNRR. The delay in its implementation directly affects the state budget and the country's ability to finance important infrastructure and modernization projects.
Currently, the authorities are looking for solutions to unblock negotiations and avoid the definitive loss of these European funds. The situation remains tense, as any further delay could put pressure on the country's budget deficit and long-term financial stability.
