The BSW party strongly criticizes the attempt to ban the AfD
The "Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht" (BSW) party has sharply criticized the decision of the "SPD" party conference held on June 28, 2025, which aims to proceed with measures to ban the "AfD" party.
The leader of the BSW party, Sarah Wagenknecht, told the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" that it is "shameful" for a party that is losing popularity to call for a ban on another more successful political party instead of confronting it through democratic means. She emphasized that this trend towards exclusion, surveillance, and banning reflects "worrying tendencies towards authoritarianism within what is called the democratic center."
She explained that such calls from the Social Democratic Party represent a "strong slap" to many voters, which may increase their sympathy for the AfD party instead of weakening it. Wagenknecht criticized the assertion of SPD leader Lars Klingbeil that it is the historical duty of the party to remove the AfD from parliament through legal means, stating that this is not the true role of the SPD.
Vogt-Knisch added in her attack on the SPD: "It seems that no one in the party is thinking about improving policies instead of breaking electoral promises one after another, whether it is about raising the minimum wage to 15 euros or reducing the electricity tax on ordinary citizens." She emphasized that elected officials must work daily to improve policies to reduce dissatisfaction and social division in the country.
