Russian Foreign Ministry comments on the situation surrounding the Armenian railway
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued an official statement regarding the future of the South Caucasus Railway (SCR). The Russian agency commented on reports concerning the potential transfer of the railway management concession to other companies.
In Moscow, it is believed that such statements from official Yerevan are a consequence of external pressure. According to Russian diplomats, these actions are driven by Western capitals attempting to influence economic relations between Russia and Armenia.
The Russian Foreign Ministry explicitly labeled the potential sale of the concession as "blackmail." The Russian side emphasizes that the SCR is a vital infrastructure project that ensures stable transport connectivity and economic development for the region.
At present, the situation remains a subject of active discussion between the two countries. Russian authorities have expressed hope that all issues will be resolved within the framework of existing agreements and through constructive dialogue.
Further developments regarding the SCR will depend on official decisions by the Armenian government and the willingness of the parties to continue cooperation in the transport sector.
