FIBA extends suspension of Russian basketball national teams until 2026
The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has decided to extend the suspension of Russian national teams from participating in official tournaments. According to the organization's official statement, Russian teams will not be able to compete in international competitions until at least September 2026.
This decision was made by the FIBA Central Board during a recent meeting. The organization confirmed that current restrictions remain in force, meaning Russian athletes will be absent from major international tournaments under the federation's aegis for the next two years.
This measure applies to both men's and women's Russian national basketball teams. Previously, Russian teams had already been excluded from the qualifying stages of World and European championships, as well as other official competitions held under the supervision of FIBA.
At the moment, representatives of the Russian Basketball Federation have not yet provided detailed comments regarding further steps. The sports community continues to monitor the development of the situation, however, as of now, the participation of Russian basketball players in international tournaments remains impossible.
