Russia's FSB proposes simplifying border regime with new territories
The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia has put forward an initiative to change the rules for crossing the borders between Russian regions and the territories that were annexed in 2022. According to the proposed draft, there are plans to abolish border control at the administrative borders with the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, as well as the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions.
Currently, checkpoints are in operation in these areas, where security service officers conduct document checks on all citizens and inspect vehicles. These measures were introduced to ensure security and control the movement of people and goods in the frontline zone.
According to the new document, the FSB proposes moving the border control points to the external border of Russia. This means that the administrative borders within the country will become "transparent," and checks will be conducted only in areas bordering other states.
Experts note that such changes are aimed at simplifying logistics and integrating the new regions into the legal and economic sphere of Russia. The abolition of checks should significantly reduce travel time for truck drivers and passenger transport, which is important for restoring infrastructure and supplying the population.
At the moment, the draft order is at the discussion stage. If the initiative is approved, the rules for crossing the borders will change in the near future, which will be an important step in the process of administrative integration of the territories.
