More than half of Russia's backbone communication lines require upgrades
Telecommunications industry specialists are reporting a serious problem facing Russia's communications infrastructure. According to the latest data, more than 50% of all fiber-optic backbone lines in the country have already exceeded their established service life.
Experts explain that fiber optics are subject to a process of physical degradation. Over time, the quality of the material deteriorates, which directly affects the performance of the entire network. The primary consequences of this process are a reduction in channel bandwidth and a decrease in signal transmission range.
For ordinary users, this may mean slower internet speeds and potential interruptions in data transmission. Since backbone lines are the foundation of digital infrastructure, their wear and tear creates risks for the stability of communications in various regions of Russia.
At the moment, industry representatives are discussing the need for large-scale network modernization. Replacing outdated equipment requires significant investment and time, yet it is necessary to maintain the quality of digital services at a modern level.
The issue of infrastructure renewal remains a priority for ensuring reliable communications in the future. Specialists continue to monitor the condition of the lines in order to minimize risks for end consumers and businesses.
