Tick season in Russia: how to protect yourself from dangerous infections
With the arrival of warm weather, the tick activity season has begun in Russian regions. Specialists from Rospotrebnadzor warn that these insects pose a serious threat to human health, as they are carriers of dangerous diseases. Doctors are urging residents of the country to be especially vigilant during walks in parks, forests, and summer cottage areas.
The most dangerous diseases transmitted through a tick bite remain tick-borne encephalitis and borreliosis. Encephalitis affects the central nervous system and can lead to severe consequences for the body. Borreliosis, in turn, often negatively affects the joints and internal organs if treatment is not started in time.
The geography of tick distribution covers almost the entire territory of Russia. However, experts highlight regions with increased risk where the insect population density is particularly high. These traditionally include Siberia, the Urals, as well as the central and northwestern regions of the country. In these areas, residents are advised to get vaccinated in advance.
To minimize risks, specialists advise following simple safety rules. When going out into nature, it is necessary to wear closed, light-colored clothing, on which it is easier to spot a tick, and to use special repellents. After a walk, it is important to carefully inspect your clothing and body.
If you find an attached tick, you should not try to remove it yourself without preparation. It is best to go to the nearest emergency room or medical facility. Timely consultation with a doctor and submitting the insect for analysis will help to quickly determine the presence of an infection and begin the necessary treatment.
