Ukraine expands international register of damage from military actions
The head of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, announced the expansion of the International Register of Damage. New categories of damage caused during the conflict with Russia are now being added to this list. The goal of the initiative is to collect a complete evidentiary base for future legal proceedings.
According to Budanov, the process of forming a "full bill" for the Russian Federation has become more detailed. Now, the register includes not only data on destroyed residential buildings and infrastructure but also information on other types of losses. This is necessary to demand compensation for all consequences of military actions in the future.
The International Register of Damage was created with the support of the Council of Europe. It operates as a digital platform where citizens, businesses, and government agencies can submit claims regarding damaged or destroyed property. It is expected that the collected data will serve as the basis for international payment and reparation mechanisms.
Experts note that collecting such information is a complex and lengthy process. Official documents, photographs, and expert assessments are required to confirm each case. Ukrainian authorities emphasize that the work of the register is an important step toward restoring justice and ensuring accountability for the damage caused.
At the moment, the international community continues to discuss legal avenues for using frozen assets to finance the reconstruction of affected territories. The work of the damage register is a key element of this strategy, as it allows for the assessment of the scale of necessary funds based on real facts.
