Business climate in Russia: Bank of Russia indicator drops into negative territory for the first time in a long while
The Bank of Russia has published fresh data on the state of the business climate in the country. In July of this year, a special indicator (BCI), which assesses the sentiment of entrepreneurs, fell to a mark of minus 3.6 points. For comparison, as recently as June, this figure was in positive territory at 0.9 points.
Such a sharp change indicates a slowdown in business activity across various sectors of the economy. The business climate indicator is calculated by the regulator based on surveys of company executives. Negative values usually suggest that businesses have become more cautious in assessing their prospects and current production capabilities.
Experts note that the decline in the indicator may be linked to a number of economic factors, including changes in lending conditions and difficulties with equipment supplies. Company representatives report rising costs, which is forcing them to adjust their plans for the coming months.
Despite the current decline, the Bank of Russia continues to closely monitor the dynamics of these indicators. The regulator uses this data to assess the overall situation in the economy and to make decisions regarding monetary policy. Analysts expect that, in the near future, businesses will adapt to the new conditions in order to stabilize production and demand figures.
