Moscow city fountain season comes to an end

The city fountain season has officially ended in Moscow. This was announced by the capital's mayor, Sergey Sobyanin. All water features in the city's parks, squares, and plazas have been turned off so that specialists can begin preparing the equipment for the winter period.

The process of winterizing fountains is a complex technical task. First, water is drained from the systems, and then the basins and sculptures are thoroughly cleaned of debris and residue accumulated over the summer. After this, technicians begin dismantling the pumping equipment and nozzles responsible for creating water patterns.

To protect the fountains from the harsh Russian winter, many are covered with special structures. This helps prevent damage to the basins caused by temperature fluctuations, snow, and ice. Some fountains with complex architecture are additionally covered with protective boxes to preserve their appearance until spring.

All winter preparation work is scheduled to be completed in the near future. City services are ensuring that all systems are securely protected. Residents and visitors to the capital will be able to see the fountains operating again at the end of April next year, when the new season traditionally opens in Moscow.
