Polish fighter jets intercepted a Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea
The Polish Ministry of Defense has reported an incident in the airspace over the Baltic Sea. Polish military fighter jets were scrambled to escort a Russian Il-20 reconnaissance aircraft.
According to the Polish side, the Russian aircraft was spotted near the coast of Poland, approximately 30 kilometers from the city of Łeba. In response to the aircraft's approach toward the country's borders, on-duty air defense forces were scrambled.
The official statement emphasizes that the Russian aircraft did not violate Polish airspace and was flying in international airspace. After the fighter jets approached the object, the Russian Il-20 continued its flight along its intended route.
Such situations in the Baltic Sea region occur regularly. Military aircraft from various countries frequently conduct flights in neutral waters, which requires constant monitoring by the air defense systems of neighboring states.
At this moment, the Russian side has not provided official comments regarding this incident. The situation in the skies over the Baltic remains calm, and flights are continuing as normal.
