Demand for cash in Russia reaches a multi-year high
A significant increase in public interest in cash has been recorded in Russia. According to the latest data from experts, the volume of cash in circulation has reached record levels not seen since the beginning of 2026. This trend has become noticeable to the banking sector and financial analysts.
Specialists attribute this growth in demand to several reasons. One of the main factors is the desire of citizens to have more liquid assets on hand amidst economic uncertainty. Furthermore, many Russians prefer to withdraw large sums from their accounts to make purchases or to build personal savings outside of the banking system.
Banks note that customer activity in withdrawing cash has remained high for several weeks. Financial institutions are operating normally and ensuring uninterrupted disbursement of funds, despite the increased load on ATMs and branch teller windows.
Economists emphasize that the situation is under the regulator's control. In the near future, experts will closely monitor demand dynamics to assess how long this period of heightened interest in cash will last and how it will affect overall financial stability in the country.
