Shortage of popular sedative drug emerges in Russian pharmacies
Russian pharmacies are facing a shortage of the popular tranquilizer Atarax. The medication, which is frequently prescribed for the treatment of anxiety disorders, has become difficult for many patients to obtain in various regions of the country, including the Volgograd region.
The pharmaceutical company that manufactures the drug has officially confirmed the information regarding the shortage. Representatives for the manufacturer explained that the supply disruptions are linked to temporary logistical difficulties. At present, the company is working to restore normal supply volumes to pharmacy chains.
Atarax is a prescription medication containing the active ingredient hydroxyzine. It is often used for the symptomatic treatment of anxiety in adults, as well as for the relief of itching in allergic reactions. Due to the high popularity of the drug, its absence is causing concern among patients who are undergoing treatment.
Healthcare experts remind patients that if they are unable to find a prescribed medication, they should not resort to self-medication. Patients are advised to consult their attending physician to select a suitable alternative or to adjust their treatment regimen until the medication is available for sale again.
The supply situation is being monitored. It is expected that the logistical problems will be resolved in the near future and that the drug will return to pharmacy shelves in full volume.
