Russian Ministry of Health Expands List of Rare Diseases
The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has updated the list of orphan, or rare, diseases. Four new diagnoses have been added to this official list. This decision is an important step for the development of the healthcare system and for assisting citizens who face rare health problems.
Orphan diseases are those that occur in a very small number of people. In Russia, diseases are officially classified under this category if they affect no more than 10 people per 100,000 population. Updating the list allows the state to better plan drug procurement and monitor the quality of medical care for such patients.
The inclusion of new diseases in the list means that people with these diagnoses can now receive free medications and specialized treatment at the expense of the state budget. For many families, this is vital news, as the therapy for rare diseases often requires enormous financial costs that are difficult to pay for independently.
The Ministry of Health continues its work on monitoring rare pathologies and regularly updates the list based on new medical data. Experts emphasize that such support helps make modern medicine in Russia more accessible and effective for every person, regardless of the complexity of their diagnosis.
