Russia warned Finland about loss of contact with civilian drone
Russian aviation services informed the Finnish side in advance that a civilian unmanned aerial vehicle had deviated from its intended route. The incident occurred in the airspace near the border, after which the drone made an emergency landing on Finnish territory.
According to available information, the device was used exclusively for mapping work. Russian specialists promptly contacted their Finnish colleagues to report a technical malfunction and the loss of control over the device. This helped to avoid misunderstandings between the countries during the incident.
Finnish Minister of Defense Antti Häkkänen commented on the situation, urging the public not to look for signs of hostility in this incident. According to him, such technical malfunctions happen, and in this case, it was an ordinary civilian drone performing peaceful tasks related to terrain surveying.
At the moment, the situation is considered resolved. The parties continue to interact through standard communication channels to ensure flight safety in border areas and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
