The Vatican has called for a swift end to the conflict in Ukraine
A representative of the Vatican held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The main topic of the negotiations was the situation in Ukraine and the need to find ways for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
During the meeting, the diplomat, on behalf of the Holy See, emphasized the importance of ending hostilities as soon as possible. The Vatican traditionally advocates for a diplomatic solution to disputes and expresses concern over the humanitarian consequences of the current crisis.
Previously, Pope Francis has repeatedly appealed to the international community for peace. In his address on August 9, the pontiff expressed deep regret regarding the growing number of civilian casualties and called on the parties to engage in dialogue.
At the moment, official representatives of Russia and the Vatican continue to maintain contact to discuss humanitarian issues. The international community is closely monitoring these negotiations, hoping for progress in de-escalating the situation.
