Russia and Ukraine Conduct Large-Scale Prisoner of War Exchange
On Friday, June 5, Russia and Ukraine conducted a new stage of prisoner of war exchange. As a result of negotiations, 370 people returned home — 185 from each side. This event became an important step in resolving humanitarian issues under the conditions of the current conflict.
The exchange took place according to a pre-agreed "185 for 185" formula. This means that the parties handed over an equal number of people to each other. Such operations require careful preparation and often take place with the participation of mediators who help organize a safe transfer process.
After crossing the border, all released military personnel are sent to medical centers. There, they undergo a full examination and receive necessary assistance from doctors and psychologists. For many soldiers, this is the first opportunity to contact their families after a long time in captivity.
Relatives of the prisoners on both sides were looking forward to the publication of the lists. Official representatives confirmed that work on the return of the remaining citizens continues. Each such operation gives hope to hundreds of other families whose loved ones still remain on the lists of detainees.
Despite the complex situation, the parties are finding opportunities to conduct dialogue on humanitarian issues. Experts note that regular exchanges help solve important tasks in protecting human rights. It is expected that in the future, such actions will be carried out again as new agreements are reached.
