Future of river transport in Russia discussed in Saratov
On September 23 and 24, the 9th annual conference titled "River Transport of Russia 2026" was held in Saratov. This important event brought together experts, business representatives, and government officials to discuss the current state and development prospects of inland water transport in the country.
The main topic of discussion was the modernization of the river fleet and the improvement of port infrastructure. Participants noted that the development of river routes is of great importance for regional economies, as it allows for the transport of goods faster and more cheaply than by rail or road.
Special attention at the conference was paid to the digitalization of the industry. Experts presented new technologies that will help make navigation safer and logistics management more efficient. Measures of state support for companies engaged in building new vessels at Russian shipyards were also discussed.
Industry representatives emphasized that river transport is becoming increasingly popular not only for the delivery of goods but also for the development of domestic tourism. In the coming years, there are plans to launch new routes that will connect major cities along the Volga and other large rivers of Russia.
The conference concluded with the signing of a number of cooperation agreements between regional authorities and private investors. The organizers expressed confidence that the decisions made will help significantly increase the volume of river transport by 2026 and make this mode of transport more accessible to businesses and passengers.
