Russian Ministry of Health expands list of rare diseases
The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has officially updated the list of orphan, or rare, diseases. Four new nosologies have been added to this list, which will allow patients with these diagnoses to receive the necessary state support.
Orphan diseases are those that occur extremely rarely among the population. Due to their low prevalence, such diseases require special attention from the state, as medications and treatment methods for them are often very expensive.
Expanding the list means that the state now assumes additional obligations to provide patients with the necessary medications. This is an important step toward improving the quality of life for people suffering from rare ailments and increasing the accessibility of specialized medical care in the country's regions.
The inclusion of the new diseases in the list was the result of work by experts and the medical community. Specialists analyzed current data on the prevalence of the diseases and concluded that it was necessary to include these diagnoses in the state support program.
The updated list has already entered into force. It is expected that this decision will help thousands of Russian citizens gain access to modern treatment and will ensure a systematic approach to combating rare pathologies within the healthcare system.
