Russia confirms plans to maintain military base in Armenia
Official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova made a statement regarding the presence of Russian military personnel in Armenia. According to her, Moscow intends to strictly adhere to all bilateral agreements previously signed between the two countries.
The main subject of discussion was the 102nd Russian military base, located in the city of Gyumri. This facility plays an important role in ensuring security in the region and is part of the collective defense system. Russia emphasizes that all obligations regarding the maintenance and operation of this base remain in effect.
In her speech, Zakharova noted that the Russian side expects constructive cooperation with Yerevan. Despite changes in the political agenda, Moscow continues to view Armenia as an important partner in matters of regional stability and security.
The issue of Russia's military presence in Armenia remains relevant to the foreign policy of both countries. Compliance with existing treaties allows for maintaining predictability in relations and upholding the balance of power in the South Caucasus.
At the moment, the Russian side does not plan to revise the terms of its contingent's stay. Further development of the situation will depend on the continuation of diplomatic dialogue between Moscow and Yerevan.
