Russian Ministry of Health to expand newborn screening program
The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has announced plans to expand the newborn screening program. In the near future, the list of conditions for which infants are tested immediately after birth will be supplemented with six additional rare hereditary pathologies.
This initiative is aimed at the early detection of genetic disorders. Timely diagnosis allows doctors to begin necessary treatment at the earliest stages, which significantly increases children's chances for a healthy life and helps avoid the development of severe complications.
The neonatal screening program is an important part of the country's healthcare system. Regularly updating the list of screened diseases allows for the implementation of modern medical technologies and ensures high-quality prevention of hereditary diseases in children across Russia.
Currently, specialists from the department are preparing the necessary regulatory documents for the implementation of new diagnostic methods. It is expected that the expanded screening will become available to newborns in all regions of the country in the near future.
