Ukraine appeals to ICAO regarding flight safety over Russian territory
Ukraine has officially sent a notification to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regarding the situation in Russian airspace. The document emphasizes that risks to civil aviation in this region have increased significantly due to the ongoing military conflict.
In its appeal, the Ukrainian side points out that using civil air routes over Russian territory is becoming unsafe. According to experts, the proximity of civil aircraft to active combat zones poses a serious threat to passengers and flight crews.
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a specialized UN agency that sets flight safety standards worldwide. Upon receiving the official warning, the organization must review the submitted data and assess the current flight safety situation in Russian skies.
At present, many international airlines have already changed their routes to avoid flying over the territories of Russia and Ukraine. Further ICAO decisions could affect international air travel regulations and lead to new restrictions for civil aviation in this region.
