Russian State and Private Services Restrict Access via VPN
In mid-April, Russian users faced new difficulties when using the internet. The popular state portal "Gosuslugi," as well as some large private services, began restricting access for people with a VPN enabled. This change has affected millions of citizens accustomed to using secure connections for work or personal purposes.
Problems arose not only with state resources. Users report that major platforms such as Yandex and the social network VKontakte have also become unstable when a VPN is turned on. Additionally, many banking applications have stopped opening, requiring users to disable tools for bypassing blocks before starting work.
Experts note that such measures may be related to new security requirements or changes in companies' technical policies. The main goal of the restrictions is to ensure that the user is within the country and is using official communication channels. However, for many, this creates serious inconvenience, as they have to constantly toggle internet settings to access different websites.
At the moment, no official comments have been issued by all the companies, but the situation has already become widespread across the country. Specialists recommend that users temporarily disable VPNs before using critical services to avoid technical errors and loss of access to personal accounts. The development of the situation will show whether such a practice will become permanent for the entire Russian segment of the internet.
