Vladimir Putin dismisses Russian Ambassador to the UK
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree relieving Andrey Kelin of his duties as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Andrey Kelin had held this responsible diplomatic post since November 2019. Over the past few years, he represented Russia's interests in London amidst a significant cooling of bilateral relations between the two countries.
At this moment, the name of Andrey Kelin's successor has not been officially announced. In the near future, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is expected to present a candidate for the new head of the diplomatic mission.
The role of ambassador to the UK is traditionally considered one of the most challenging tasks in Russian diplomacy due to existing political disagreements. The change in embassy leadership may signal the beginning of a new phase in diplomatic engagement between Moscow and London.
The appointment of a new ambassador will be a significant event for Russia's foreign policy. Experts expect that official information regarding the new representative will be released once all necessary approval procedures are completed.
