Russian men's national volleyball team to miss 2027 World Championship
The Russian men's national volleyball team has officially declined to participate in the 2027 World Championship. The tournament will be held in Poland, and the Russian side has made the decision not to send its athletes there.
Representatives of the Russian Volleyball Federation explained this decision by citing the current political situation. In their view, the upcoming competition will contain "critically little sport and a great deal of politics," which makes the participation of the Russian team impossible under these conditions.
It is worth noting that international sports organizations continue to restrict the participation of Russian athletes in major tournaments following the start of the conflict in Ukraine. Many federations have either completely suspended Russian national teams or allow athletes to compete only under a neutral status without the use of national symbols.
Declining to participate in the World Championship in Poland has become another step in a series of similar decisions for Russian sports. In the coming years, Russian teams will be forced to miss a number of major international competitions, which significantly changes the sports calendar for athletes and fans in Russia.
