Court denies Euroclear's request to suspend the recovery of 18.2 trillion rubles
The Arbitration Court of the Moscow District has made an important decision in the case against the international depository Euroclear. The court denied the company's request to suspend the execution of the decision to recover funds for the benefit of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.
We are talking about a massive sum—approximately 18.2 trillion rubles. This dispute is related to the blocking of Russian assets that were held in the depository's accounts. Following the imposition of international sanctions, access to these funds was restricted, which led to a series of legal proceedings between Russian financial institutions and Euroclear.
Representatives of Euroclear attempted to secure a temporary halt to the recovery process, arguing that a review of the case was necessary. However, the court deemed these arguments insufficient and upheld the previous decision. Thus, the legal process for recovering the assets continues within the framework of the Russian legal system.
This case is one of the largest in the history of the Russian judicial system. It highlights the complexity of the situation regarding frozen assets and the determination of Russian authorities to protect their financial interests through national courts.
At this moment, the court's decision means that the recovery of funds may continue according to established procedures. Experts continue to monitor developments, as the outcome of this case could influence future practices regarding the handling of blocked foreign assets in Russia.
