New rules for MRI and X-ray procedures in Russia starting September 1
Starting September 1, 2024, updated rules for diagnostic examinations, such as MRIs and X-rays, will come into effect in Russia. These changes are aimed at simplifying patient access to medical diagnostics in the private healthcare sector.
The main innovation concerns the procedure for receiving services at private clinics. According to the new rules, patients will no longer be required to provide a referral from an attending physician to undergo a procedure. This will allow people to receive necessary examinations faster, without unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles.
Experts note that these changes are intended to make medical care more accessible and convenient. Previously, the requirement for a referral often created additional difficulties for patients who wanted to undergo an examination on their own initiative or based on the recommendations of specialists from other medical organizations.
It is important to remember that despite the simplification of the rules, doctors still recommend consulting with specialists before undergoing radiation diagnostics. MRIs and X-rays have their own indications and contraindications, so a professional opinion remains an important factor for the patient's health and safety.
It is expected that the new rules will help relieve the burden on state polyclinics and make the diagnostic process in private centers more transparent. Patients are advised to check the current information regarding appointment procedures directly with their chosen medical institutions.
