Russia ranks first in the world for the number of internet access restrictions
Russia has topped the global ranking of countries by the number of hours during which internet access was restricted. According to analysts, this figure reached 37,100 hours over the last reporting period. The study takes into account both the blocking of individual resources and temporary communication outages in various regions.
Experts cite legislative requirements for ensuring information security and the fight against the spread of prohibited content as the primary reasons for such measures. Regulatory bodies emphasize that these actions are aimed at protecting citizens from cyber threats and disinformation in the digital space.
Specialists note that such restrictions affect the operation of many online services, social networks, and messaging apps used daily by millions of Russians. To bypass blocks, users are increasingly resorting to special tools such as VPN services, although their operation is also subject to additional government regulation.
The situation regarding internet access in Russia is sparking active discussion within the international community. Human rights advocates express concern that restricting access could negatively impact the development of the digital economy and access to educational resources. At the same time, government representatives insist on the necessity of creating a sovereign internet infrastructure.
At present, the issue of balancing freedom of information and state control remains one of the most pressing for Russian society. Experts predict that the trend toward increased control over internet traffic may continue in the near future.
