International Olympic Committee comments on the participation of Russian athletes in competitions

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has published an official statement after a number of European countries expressed protest against the participation of Russian athletes in international tournaments. Representatives of nine European Union states demanded a review of admission rules and an end to support for sports organizations that continue to cooperate with Russia.

In its response, the IOC leadership emphasized that sport must remain outside of politics. The committee recalled that the main goal of the organization is to unite athletes from all over the world, regardless of their citizenship or the political situation in their countries. According to IOC experts, discrimination against athletes based on their nationality contradicts Olympic principles.

Previously, the issue of admitting Russians became one of the most discussed topics in the global sports community. Many international federations are currently seeking compromise solutions that would allow for safety requirements to be met while maintaining fair competition in sports arenas.

The situation remains tense, as the positions of different countries on this issue differ significantly. In the near future, new consultations are expected between representatives of the IOC and national Olympic committees to find a final format for the participation of Russian athletes in future competitions.

This issue continues to remain at the center of attention for global media. Further decisions by the committee could significantly affect the preparation schedule for upcoming major tournaments and the general atmosphere within the international sports movement.
