Russian Ministry of Health expands list of rare diseases
The Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has officially updated the list of orphan, or rare, diseases. Four new nosologies have been added to this list, which will allow patients with these diagnoses to receive the necessary state support.
Orphan diseases are those that occur extremely rarely among the population. Due to the small number of patients, the development of drugs for such people often requires significant resources, and the cost of therapy can be very high. Including a disease in the state registry is an important step toward providing patients with free medications.
This decision is aimed at improving the quality of life for patients and increasing the accessibility of medical care. Thanks to the update of the list, doctors will be able to make diagnoses faster and prescribe appropriate treatment, which will be financed from budget funds.
The Ministry of Health continues its work on monitoring rare pathologies in the country. Experts note that expanding the list helps not only patients but also the medical system as a whole, as the systematization of data allows for better planning of purchases of expensive medications.
It is expected that the new rules will come into force in the near future. Patients diagnosed with these diseases will be able to contact medical institutions at their place of residence for consultations on the procedure for obtaining the necessary medications.
