Russian Security Council claims there is a campaign against the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan
Deputy Secretary of the Russian Security Council Alexey Shevtsov has issued a statement regarding the situation surrounding the nuclear power plant construction project in Kazakhstan. According to him, a large-scale campaign is currently being waged against the Russian state corporation Rosatom, with the goal of discrediting the company and hindering the implementation of the project.
The representative of the Russian agency noted that the information pressure is aimed at disrupting cooperation between the two countries in the energy sector. According to Moscow's position, such actions are organized by forces that have no interest in strengthening the partnership between Russia and Kazakhstan.
The issue of building a nuclear power plant is an important topic for Russian-Kazakh relations. Previously, the authorities of Kazakhstan have repeatedly emphasized that the final decision on the choice of technologies and contractors will be made taking into account the opinion of the country's citizens, including through the holding of a national referendum.
At the moment, official Astana has not yet provided detailed comments regarding the statements made by the Russian Security Council. Experts note that the nuclear power plant project remains a subject of active discussion both at the political level and in the public sphere of both countries.
