Russia tests ballot delivery using drones
The Central Election Commission of Russia has conducted an unusual experiment in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Specialists tested whether unmanned aerial vehicles could be used to deliver election ballots to the country's most remote and hard-to-reach settlements.
During the tests, election commission staff loaded a ballot onto a special drone. The aircraft then autonomously set off along a pre-programmed route. The entire delivery process to the remote village took the drone about 30 minutes.
The use of modern technology in the work of election commissions is aimed at making the voting process more convenient and accessible for all citizens, regardless of where they live. Given the challenging geography of some Russian regions, such delivery methods could significantly simplify logistics.
At the moment, this was only an experimental launch. Representatives of the Central Election Commission plan to analyze the test results to understand how effective and safe it would be to use drones under real-world conditions during future elections.
If the technology proves to be reliable, it could become an important tool for organizing voting in remote areas of Siberia and the Far East. This would allow residents of even the smallest villages to receive election documents on time.
