Seeds of plants created by artificial intelligence are being sold in Russia
Recently, cases of selling seeds and seedlings of unusual plants have become more frequent in Russia. Sellers offer seeds for berries, vegetables, and fruits that look very beautiful and exotic in photographs. However, experts warn that many of these plants do not actually exist in nature.
To create advertisements, unscrupulous sellers use artificial intelligence (AI). Neural networks generate bright and attractive images of fruits that are impossible to grow in reality. For example, on the Internet, one can find advertisements for blue tomatoes or berries of unusual shapes. Buyers see the beautiful pictures and order the product, hoping to get a unique harvest.
The problem has become so widespread that public organizations have taken notice. They point out that people are spending money on products that do not match the description. Often, instead of exotic fruits, the purchased seeds grow into ordinary vegetables, or the plants do not take root at all. Experts call such activity consumer fraud.
In connection with this situation, public activists have turned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia. They are asking law enforcement agencies to conduct an investigation into sellers who use AI-generated images to sell goods. The main goal of this appeal is to stop the mass sale of non-existent plants and protect the rights of citizens.
Specialists advise gardeners to be careful when making purchases online. Before ordering seeds, it is worth checking whether such a variety exists in official state registers. If a photograph of a plant looks too perfect or unnatural, it was most likely created by a neural network. Remember that a beautiful picture does not always guarantee a high-quality result.
