Russian scientists have established production of an important chemical component
Scientists from the Irkutsk Institute of Chemistry of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have presented an important technological development. They have launched their own production of fluorinated alkanes, which are necessary for creating various industrial additives. This project has been nominated for the "Made in Russia — 2026" award in the "Science and Technology" category.
A key element of the new development is the substance 1,4-dihydrooctafluorobutane, which specialists refer to as "OFB liquid." This solvent plays an important role in the chemical industry, making it possible to improve the quality of technical additives and agents used in manufacturing.
Previously, Russian enterprises were forced to purchase this component from abroad. Dependence on imported supplies created certain difficulties for domestic manufacturers. Now, thanks to the new technology, Russia will be able to provide itself with the necessary raw materials independently.
Launching domestic production is an important step for the development of the Russian chemical industry. The success of the scientists from Irkutsk demonstrates the capabilities of domestic science in creating high-tech products that replace foreign analogs and strengthen the country's industrial independence.
