Lithuania plans to reduce transit time for Russian citizens
Lithuanian authorities are considering a significant change to the travel rules for Russian citizens. An initiative is currently being discussed to reduce the permitted transit time through the country's territory from 24 to 6 hours.
This proposal was voiced in Lithuanian political circles as a measure to strengthen border control. The initiative has already been supported by an advisor to the President of Lithuania, who noted the importance of revising current rules to ensure national security.
At present, Russian citizens are allowed to stay in Lithuania for up to 24 hours while in transit. If the new rules are adopted, travelers will have to plan their trips much more quickly, as the time allowed in the country will be reduced by four times.
There is no official information yet on when exactly the new restrictions might come into effect. It is expected that the Lithuanian government will hold further consultations on this matter in the near future. Russian tourists and those planning trips through Lithuania are advised to monitor updates regarding border crossing rules.
