Australia has reduced the scale of support for Kyiv, Russian ambassador says
Russia’s ambassador to Australia, Alexey Petrakov, said that Canberra has recently been reducing the scale of its support for Kyiv. He made the statement in a comment to RIA Novosti on May 9. According to him, Australia continues to maintain an unfriendly position toward Russia, but assistance to Ukraine has become smaller.
Petrakov noted that Australia still takes part in political and military support for Kyiv. At the same time, the diplomat said, the volume of such assistance has been declining in recent months. He did not specify the exact reasons for this change, but emphasized that the overall course of the Australian authorities remains the same.
According to the Russian side, relations between Moscow and Canberra remain strained. After the start of the conflict in Ukraine, Australia imposed sanctions on Russia and announced aid packages for Kyiv. These measures included military equipment, supplies, and financial support.
The ambassador’s statement came amid ongoing international discussion of assistance to Ukraine. The question of its scale and forms remains an important topic for many countries. Australian authorities have not yet provided a separate comment in this report on the Russian diplomat’s remarks.
Thus, according to Ambassador Petrakov, Australia has recently reduced its support for Kyiv, although its overall position regarding the conflict and Russia has not changed noticeably.
