How to save up to 728 euros on electricity and gas
After a brief decline, inflation rose again in August by 4.1%! Energy costs are particularly affected, especially with the start of the heating season. According to the comparison site tarife.at, electricity prices alone have increased by 37.2% year-on-year. Despite this increase, experts confirm that there is a significant opportunity for savings. By changing energy providers, households can reduce their annual bills by hundreds of euros. On average, Austrians can save 183 euros annually on electricity. Styria tops the list with savings of up to 322 euros, followed by Salzburg (259 euros) and Burgenland (212 euros). In Vienna, the savings potential is more modest at 98 euros, and in Tyrol, it is only 43 euros.
Gas consumers face similar differences between regions. In Styria, switching to a cheaper provider can reduce costs by up to 406 euros per year. In Burgenland, households can save 347 euros, while residents of Upper Austria retain an additional 300 euros. In Vienna, Vorarlberg, and Tyrol, the savings are lower, ranging from 117 to 153 euros. The national average savings is about 232 euros per year for gas.
Maximilian Schirmer, the managing director of the platform tarife.at, emphasizes the importance of regular switching. Many companies offer significant discounts in the first year to attract new customers, and these offers can make a noticeable difference. He said: "Households that regularly switch electricity and gas providers can significantly reduce their bills."
Experts add that conscious energy consumption, along with changing providers, constitutes the best strategy for families to cope with rising prices. With the start of the heating season, now may be the most important time for Austrian families to review their contracts and take advantage of savings opportunities.
