A yellow alert has been issued across most of the country due to dense fog.
A thick fog has spread across most of the Netherlands, prompting the KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) to issue a code yellow warning for hazardous weather conditions affecting daily life and transportation.
According to KNMI, visibility in many areas has dropped to between 100 and 200 meters only, making driving dangerous. The province of Zeeland was the only one exempt from the warning, while the rest of the areas included the entire country.
Fog is expected to persist longer in the northern regions, where it may not clear until the first half of the afternoon. In the south, however, weather conditions are likely to improve a little earlier as the fog gradually dissipates.
Traffic authorities warned that fog can be deceptive for road users, increasing the risk of accidents. KNMI also alerted to the possibility of delays in air traffic due to poor visibility at airports.
The weather service Weerplaza had previously predicted "hardnekkige mist en laaghangende bewolking", meaning persistent thick fog and low-hanging clouds for Saturday. Some rain is expected in the afternoon, with dry conditions returning in the evening and overnight, with temperatures ranging from 6 to 9 degrees Celsius.
