Germany May Expand Deportation Flights to Afghanistan

Germany is reportedly preparing to significantly increase deportation flights to Afghanistan, targeting Afghan nationals convicted of serious crimes.

According to reports from *Austria Presse Agentur* citing *Bild am Sonntag*, German authorities are considering expanding charter deportation flights to as many as three per month. The move follows technical-level discussions between Germany’s Interior Ministry and representatives of the Taliban.

Officials say at least 100 Afghan nationals with active deportation orders are currently being held in prisons or immigration detention centers across Germany. These individuals are expected to be among the first affected if the new deportation plan moves forward.

In addition to charter flights, Germany is also expected to continue deportations through regular commercial flights. This would allow authorities to maintain a more consistent and frequent removal process for individuals ordered to leave the country.

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that deportations of convicted offenders to Afghanistan will be carried out “regularly and reliably.” His comments signal a tougher stance on immigration enforcement under the government’s current policy direction.

Dobrindt defended the proposed measures by saying that individuals who misuse Germany’s protection and commit serious crimes should return to their home country. He added that German society has a legitimate interest in ensuring criminals are removed from the country, a statement that is likely to intensify ongoing political and human rights debates.
