Ministry of Health: Closure of Sana'a Airport threatens the lives of thousands of patients

The Ministry of Health in Sana'a has announced serious humanitarian repercussions resulting from the continued closure of Sana'a International Airport to air traffic. The Ministry explained that this closure has caused major health crises for citizens who need to travel to receive treatment abroad.

Official reports issued by the Ministry stated that the blockade imposed on the airport has led to the death of approximately 60,000 patients over the past years. The Ministry indicated that these patients were unable to obtain the necessary medical care because they were unable to leave the country.

Furthermore, the Ministry warned that the lives of more than 120,000 other patients are in real danger. It confirmed that these patients suffer from chronic diseases and difficult health conditions that require urgent medical intervention outside of Yemen, which is currently unavailable in light of the suspension of air navigation.

These statements come at a time when international and local demands are increasing for the necessity of opening the airport to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of civilians. This issue is considered one of the most prominent challenges facing the health sector in Yemen, as the continuation of the current situation leads to the worsening of humanitarian conditions on a daily basis.
