Ministry of Health in Sana'a announces the repercussions of airport closure on patients' lives
The Ministry of Health in Sana'a has announced alarming figures regarding the health situation in Yemen, noting that the continued closure of Sana'a International Airport has led to catastrophic results for the lives of thousands of citizens who require specialized medical care outside the country.
The Ministry stated in its report that the blockade imposed on the airport has caused the deaths of approximately 60,000 patients, as a result of their inability to travel to receive necessary treatment abroad. The Ministry explained that these patients were suffering from critical health conditions that required medical interventions not available in local hospitals.
The Ministry also warned that the lives of more than 120,000 other patients are now in real danger. It confirmed that these patients are waiting for the airport to open so they can travel, as their health conditions deteriorate day by day in light of the shortage of medical resources and medicines needed to manage their chronic conditions.
These statements come at a time when international and local organizations continue to highlight the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. These entities are calling for the necessity of neutralizing the health sector from political and military conflicts, and facilitating humanitarian flight movements to save the lives of civilians who are suffering from the repercussions of this difficult situation.
