Yemeni Ministry of Health warns of deteriorating humanitarian conditions at Sana'a Airport
The Ministry of Health in Sana'a has issued a new report on the humanitarian and health situation in Yemen, highlighting the significant challenges facing the health sector due to the closure of Sana'a International Airport to commercial flights.
The Ministry explained in its statement that the continued closure of the airport has led to the death of approximately 60,000 patients who were in urgent need of traveling abroad to receive specialized treatment not available within the country. The report confirmed that these patients lost their lives as a result of their inability to reach international medical centers due to the restrictions imposed on air travel.
The Ministry also warned that the lives of more than 120,000 other patients are in real danger, as they suffer from chronic diseases and complex health conditions that require advanced medical care outside of Yemen. It noted that the shortage of medical supplies and necessary equipment further complicates the provision of essential treatment services for these patients in local hospitals.
These warnings come amid ongoing calls from international and humanitarian organizations for the necessity of opening air corridors to facilitate the arrival of medical aid and the transport of critical humanitarian cases. Relevant authorities emphasize that the health situation requires urgent intervention to avoid further casualties in the near future.
